At Home with Homebodii: Natalie Gruzlewski
With Mother's Day just around the corner, homebodii sat down with one of our favourite mums, Natalie Gruzlewski, for a Mother's Day inspired at Home with Homebodii! The lovely Natalie was born and bred on the beautiful sunny Gold Coast, and after graduating from University with a Journalism degree she moved to Sydney to start a career in the media industry. Her wealth of experience included working in the Channel 9 newsroom, presenting the adored 'Farmer Wants a Wife', and working on the TV show 'Getaway' as a travel reporter. Natalie has since moved back to the Gold Coast to bring up her beautiful daughter Olivia, now 5, and continues to work in the media industry. Natalie divides her time between hosting events, ambassador roles, promoting the wonderful organisations Bravehearts, You Can Sit with Me (anti-bullying campaign), and Foodbank.
Here are homebodii, we love Nat's approach to motherhood and her ability to balance caring for her daughter Olivia, with continuing her career in the media industry. We sat down with Natalie to discuss her experience of motherhood, her biggest inspirations, and the importance of 'Me' time.
What do you think is the most rewarding thing about being a mum?
My favourite thing about being a mother is that my daughter can make any moment special. It is the most rewarding job. Becoming a mother is by far my proudest achievement.
What do you think is the most challenging thing about being a mum?
The constant worry! I am trying not to be a helicopter parent but it's a challenge!
New challenges arrive at every stage - and adjusting to their needs and becoming the ultimate negotiator can certainly test the boundaries!!
Are there any mothers out there who inspire you?
All the women in my life constantly inspire me - it's wonderful to have a network of friends and family who offer support and advice. My late mother and grandmother were a great source of inspiration. They were strong, loving and caring women and wonderful role models.
How do you make time for yourself and do you have any tips for other mothers out there?
For your own sanity it's important to find some ME time - whether it's working out or just catching up with friends. As mothers we often put ourselves at the bottom of the food chain, but hanging around there will only get you so far. It's important to replenish the energy levels on a regular basis - and not feel guilty for doing that.
What aspect of your life has changed most since you became a parent?
Your perspective and priorities definitely change when you become a parent. It’s not about you anymore - and it’s a fulfilment that’s hard to describe! Another aspect is the lack of sleep that you somehow learn to live with!!
What is your favourite thing about being at home?
I love cooking with my daughter, Olivia. She loves being in the kitchen. Her favourite thing to do is 'crack the eggs' - basically anything where she can make a mess really!! So just doing simple but fun activities at home with her.
Which Homebodii garment best suits your personality?
Definitely the Lush Plush Robe. We can’t wait for the cooler months to arrive so that my daughter and I have an excuse to wear this robe all day! It honestly feels like a beautiful warm hug.
